Haukilahti Terrace House, Espoo

Scope: Bespoke Joinery, Spatial Reconfiguration, Lighting Design, Material Specification,

This renovation of a 1970s hillside terrace house in Espoo represents a sensitive dialogue between preservation and transformation. Originally an Aalto-inspired family home, the project focuses on updating utilitarian zones while respecting the architectural legacy of the principal living spaces.

The architectural narrative balances the home's history with contemporary family life. The main-floor kitchen is meticulously refined with integrated systems and bespoke cabinetry, modernizing the heart of the home without disrupting its mid-century flow. In contrast, the subterranean lower level is reimagined as a tactile sanctuary. Inspired by Japanese onsen culture, the wet room features a half sunken bathing zone where the tub emerges from a bespoke tiled plinth, framed by cove lighting to create a rhythmic, altar-like focus for the occupiers bathing rituals.

The project is an exercise in intentional layering. Alongside the aesthetic refresh of all wet areas and WCs, the guest wing is updated with modern electric underfloor heating. Every new element is added with architectural intentionality, ensuring the home’s story evolves with refined contemporary vision.

Status: Construction commencing Autumn 2026.
