Iirislahti Detached House, Espoo
Scope: Bespoke Joinery, Spatial Reconfiguration, Lighting Design, Material Specification, Landscape Architecture
Acquired off-plan, this four-bedroom detached home was reimagined for a client seeking to transcend the standardized specifications of commercial development. Ha Design Studio was commissioned for a comprehensive interior reinvention, focusing on spatial reconfiguration and the curation of a highly personal architectural atmosphere.
The design utilizes a "warm-contrast" methodology, replacing sterile finishes with a rich, subdued material palette. The scope includes fully bespoke joinery across the kitchen, living volumes, and private sanctuaries, anchored by a holistic lighting scheme. This cocoon-like softness is balanced by rigorous dark punctuations—such as sculptural pendant lighting and blackened wardrobe volumes—providing the visual weight necessary to ground the airy, open-plan layout.
The design extends into the garden via a new timber terrace that acts as a structural continuation of the living space. By engaging with the site’s natural topography, the intervention enhances the residence's connection to the adjacent canal and forest walkway, ensuring a seamless transition between the built environment and the organic Espoo coast.
Status: Currently on site; completion scheduled for Summer 2026.
